Installing Kubuntu 10.04
Usually I just upgrade my machine to the latest Kubuntu releases using apt-get, but with the release of the 10.04 Long Term Support version, I thought it was time to get rid of all the experimental software I have tried, the botched themes, the fixes and tweaks and so on, and go back to a standard install - see what works out of the box.
The good news is that everything pretty much runs as expected. On my old system, I was having problems with Pulse Audio and suspend/sleep stopped after upgrading to 9.10. The new system does not have Pulse at all, and the suspend/sleep works fine.
The bad news is that, no matter how often I say I'm not going to waste time fiddling around with themes and installing strange software, I am wasting fiddling around with themes and strange software. I just can't help myself.
But this time, I am going to keep track of the changes I make, and the software I install, and I will post links to the software I am actually using. I hope this will help other Kubuntu users get the best out of their desktops.
